What is Family & Friends?
NAMI Family & Friends is a seminar that teaches participants about mental health conditions and how best to support loved ones undergoing a mental health challenge. The seminar provides current information about mental health conditions, introduces effective communication skills, and promotes self care and stress management. Taught by trained teachers who are family members of people with mental illness, the seminar covers the following topics: understanding diagnoses, treatment and recovery; effective communication strategies; the importance of self-care; and crisis preparation strategies.
